Dr. Nick Ryan Psy.D., LMFT, ATR-BC

Dr. Nick Ryan graduated with his master’s degree in Marital and Family Therapy with specialization in Clinical Art Therapy from Loyola Marymount University in 1997 and earned his doctorate in psychoanalysis from the Institute of Contemporary Psychoanalysis in 2012. He has been practicing psychotherapy for over two decades working with survivors of trauma related to child abuse, sexual abuse, and severe neglect, addictions, and high-risk behaviors. Additionally, Dr. Ryan has specialized training and experience providing affirming psychotherapy to gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender individuals and couples. He is a licensed marriage and family therapist, board-certified art therapist, and contemporary psychoanalyst. Dr. Ryan has worked with a non-profit multi-service agency serving children, youth and families involved in the child welfare system and juvenile justice, inpatient psychiatric care, community mental health, residential dual diagnosis program, pain management, and private practice. Dr. Ryan has spent his 30 plus-year career as a clinician, supervisor, administrator, trainer, speaker, author, and consultant. He volunteers his time as a board member with the Coachella Valley NAMI Board of Directors, past Board President and CEO of the Institute of Contemporary Psychoanalysis in Los Angeles, and former Advisor to the Board with the Association of Children’s Residential and Community Centers. He has presented at conferences and panels both nationally and internationally addressing trauma-informed care and working with marginalized youth in child welfare. Dr. Ryan enjoys walking his dogs, spending time with family, traveling, painting, and attending professional conferences and seminars.
